Sacem Polynesia: a new creators and publishers protection agency in French Polynesia
The Society of songwriters, composers and music publishers (Sacem) is pleased to announce the creation of Sacem Polynesia in Papeete.
Sacem Polynesia is a non-profit society, headed by Virginie Bruant, in charge of collecting royalties from radios and local televisions, and public places (bars, restaurants, hotels, concert halls and shows, night clubs, cinemas, shops, craft or trade shows...) and ensuring creators and publishers of Polynesia receive the royalties generated by the use of their works and catalogues in the region.
The authorisations that will be delivered by Sacem Polynesia to music users, will cover the repertoire of creators and publishers of Polynesia but also the entire international repertoire.
Sacem will provide Sacem Polynesia with expertise and infrastructure to enable new creators and publishers to join, register their works, and collect and distribute royalties and payments to creators and publishers in Polynesia.
The governance of Sacem Polynesia is composed of an Assembly of members that will soon meet to elect, among the creators and publishers of Polynesia, its representatives on the Advisory board and the Supervisory board of the company.
Additionally, as part of its policy of promoting the Polynesian repertoire, in the coming months Sacem will establish cultural support programmes.
Sacem is delighted to be able to allow the fair remuneration of the creators and publishers of Polynesia and contribute to the promotion of Polynesian culture beyond the shores of the Pacific.
Virginie Bruant, Managing Director - Manager, Sacem Polynesia:
"After working alongside Polynesian artists for several years, I am delighted with this new page that we are turning with Sacem Polynesia. Together, we will co-develop this creative house that will allow our members to be paid for their work and to support local creation.”
Jean-Noël Tronc, CEO of Sacem:
"The creation of Sacem Polynesia demonstrates once again that Sacem is mobilised more than ever to improve the collection of the royalties of songwriters, composers and publishers and thus enable culture and creativity to flourish. Sacem is proud to accompany the launch of Sacem Polynesia and contribute to the influence of Polynesian culture.”
