WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 16
- In-Depth Look at the State of the Music Industry
11:00 AM to 12:30 PM @ Chapelle du Lycée Decour
The music sector stands at a crossroads, facing crucial issues related to the future of streaming, the impact of artificial intelligence, the development of musical creation and its presence on streaming platforms, the evolution of dominant economic models for streaming, and the challenges looming over live performances, among others. This session will feature several industry leaders discussing major themes of the present and future.
With Cécile Rap-Veber (CEO of Sacem) - Creators in the Digital Universe
1:30 PM to 2:30 PM (time TBC) @ Chapelle du Lycée Decour
MaMA has invited a group of creators to share their vision for the future of the industry and discuss the challenges they face — managing their careers, the role of streaming, remuneration issues, concerns about AI, discoverability of works in the digital landscape, among other topics.
Patrick Sigwalt (Chair of the Sacem Board of Directors) - What Future for Collective Management Organizations?
2:45 PM to 4:00 PM (time TBC) @ Chapelle du Lycée Decour
For a long time, collective management organizations for copyright have adapted to changes in the music world while remaining true to the cooperative, non-profit model established over a century ago by SACEM in France, ASCAP in the United States, and SGAE in Spain. Is this stability now being challenged? Does the transformation of the US giant BMI into a profit-driven commercial entity supported by a financial fund provide critical mass to this "commercial" rights management sector, previously limited to interstitial players, whether historical or startups? Could the dominant model shift? What strengths can traditional players rely on?
Cécile Rap-Veber (CEO of Sacem)
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 17
- What Can We Expect from Europe?
11:30 AM to 12:30 PM @ Chapelle du Lycée Decour
The European Union has established a new Parliament and a new Commission. Music industry professionals expect more from Europe, but what form can this commitment from the EU take? What will be the community policies in the field of culture in general and the music sector in particular? Will the Commission strengthen the Creative Europe program? These are some of the questions posed to a group of specialists in European affairs.
