Julien Dumon, appointed Director of Development, Phono and Digital and CEO of Sacem’s URights subsidiary
As it continues its transformation, Sacem is announcing the appointment of Julien Dumon as head of the Development, Phono and Digital Department and the newly created URights subsidiary. As part of his new role, he will join the Sacem Management Committee.
Since his arrival at Sacem in November 2015, Julien Dumon has played a central role in the growth of Sacem's digital revenues. He has arranged contracts with all digital players, both nationally and internationally, and contributed to the significant increase in sources of income for Sacem members and partners.
In order to seize all the opportunities offered by digital technology and capitalise on them for its members and mandators, a new department dedicated to development has been specially created and attached to the Development, Phono and Digital Department.
The new Development, Phono and Digital Department will meet three objectives:
With the emergence of Web3 and its decentralised and collective universe, Sacem is developing, through its URights unit, also headed by Mr. Dumon, new and innovative services for its members and partners. One such service is MusicStart, which allows authors and composers to register their works in a few minutes and obtain a certificate of proof of anteriority via the blockchain. This first new tool will be launched in coming weeks.
By making it possible to offer innovative services to partners or companies in other sectors, the creation of the URights subsidiary is fully in line with Sacem's development strategy.
Sacem is recognised worldwide for its negotiating skill, quality of service and expertise in the management of authors’ rights, and in recent years particularly, rights resulting from digital technology. As it continues its transformation with a new management team, the society is demonstrating its ability to grasp new technologies with a single goal in mind: to create even greater value for music creators and publishers.
Cécile Rap-Veber, CEO of Sacem and President of the URights subsidiary: "The creation of the Development, Phono and Digital Department is a new stage in the sweeping transformation Sacem has undertaken by anticipating and embracing the constant changes in the way culture is consumed and disseminated and by continuing to diversify. We are carrying out this transformation by investing in technology and developing new tools, but also by relying on the talent and expertise of our team. The choice of Julien to head up this new department was an obvious one, as he has worked so effectively in recent years to develop new sources of income for our members. I wish him the very best in this exciting new adventure and in seizing the opportunities opened up by the new digital environment that unfolding."
