Sacem congratulates the French government for role played in member states adopting a comprehensive approach to the copyright directive

Discussions within the Council have been challenging, but thanks to the work of the French government, in particular its Minister Françoise Nyssen, who has been a driving force since the beginning of the negotiations, the resulting agreement will help to ensure the measures to correct the transfer of value and ensure better remuneration for creators, will remain effective.

This first stage was crucial but nothing is certain yet. Discussions in the European Parliament continue, and will result in a vote on its version of the text in the coming weeks. The Directive will then be subject to three-way negotiations to agree a final version.

It is necessary and crucial for all to get involved, so that those parties that wish to protect the platforms' impunity cannot in any way undermine the proposed measures to ensure fair remuneration for creators.

The involvement of the cultural sector and current artists in the #makeinternetfair petition, signed by more than 28,000 European creators, along with the ongoing effort of the French government, will be indispensable. Sacem intends to remain vigilant so that the directive to be debated in the European Parliament does not lose sight of this objective.
