Sacem to handle international online administration of warner/chappell’s repertoire with Deezer, Gobuz and Youtube

The mandate, covering mechanical rights, will apply to pan-European licensing deals with leading digital service providers Deezer, Qobuz and YouTube on a multi-territory basis.

2 June 2017: SACEM, the leading international collective management organisation, has been appointed by Warner/Chappell Music, the music publishing company of Warner Music Group, in a new partnership to administer its repertoire in a multi-territory online mandate. Streaming is the growing key market for the music industry: online revenues collected by SACEM in 2016, rose by 42.6%.

The agreement with Warner/Chappell Music is the latest complex, international online mandate trusted to SACEM by a major publisher.

SACEM is investing heavily in technology to track and capture the value of music online. It recently announced a ten year strategic partnership with IBM to develop URights, a global online music copyright management platform. SACEM’s leading copyright matching technology will deliver efficient service to Warner/Chappell Music, its songwriters and its impressive and extensive repertoire of timeless songs.

Jean-Noël Tronc, CEO of SACEM:  "We are very proud to announce that Warner/Chappell Music is the latest major publisher to entrust us with their repertoire in a multi-territory online licensing deal for several streaming platforms that represent a strategically important and growing market.
“We are a partner of choice for publishers in international online licensing deals because of our deep experience and our innovative industry leading technology. We have been appointed thanks to our strong knowledge and expertise in streaming and because we have invested in providing a highly efficient and completely transparent service.
“This new partnership with Warner/Chappell Music is a vindication of our strategic investment in a future-proof global online copyright management system. We are passionate about using digital innovation to turn the challenge of digital fragmentation of rights into an opportunity to unlock more value for creators and rights-holders.”

SACEM also handles the repertoire of UMPI, Wixen Music and the Canadian society SOCAN, in similar partnerships.
