Sacem and GEMA unveil results of study on the impact of artificial intelligence in music
Sacem (France’s Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music) and GEMA (Germany’s Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers of Music) have revealed the results of the world's first study, conducted by Goldmedia, on the impact of generative AI on the music and creative sectors. This in-depth analysis, based on market data, expert interviews, and a survey of over 15,000 creators and publishers, explores the challenges and opportunities AI presents for the music industry.
The study shows that generative AI could transform the sector, with market forecasts reaching $3 billion by 2028. However, it raises major concerns: an estimated 27% reduction in creators' income by 2028, and 71% of creators expressing fears about AI's impact on their earnings and future.
Despite the growing use of AI by creators, the majority believe that the risks outweigh the benefits. The study calls for stronger regulation and greater transparency to protect copyright. Sacem and GEMA hope these findings will shed light on the AI debate in music and help adjust regulations to better defend the interests of creators.
