Sacem Grands Prix 2020: awards unveiled on day of solidarity dedicated to the people who make music happen

Reaffirming our commitment to the French cultural scene

A unique edition of the Sacem Grands Prix, with an emphasis on solidarity and French creativity, will be broadcast exclusively on the web on Monday, December 7.

With the health crisis hitting the music sector hard, the Sacem Board of Directors decided last May to cancel the traditional Sacem Grands Prix ceremony so it could allocate the budget to its relief fund for authors, composers and publishers. Still, the Board was determined to honor the talent of our creators by naming a slate of prize winners.

The eighteen winners of the 2020 Sacem Grands Prix embody all the richness, talent and diversity of musical creation from the past, present and into the future. Unable to get up on stage, they have accepted these awards from their peers and agreed to represent the voices of authors, composers, publishers, author-directors and comedy writers by performing in five episodes of a web series created for the occasion. They bear witness from the heart of an unprecedented crisis, revealing both their concerns and their hopes for music and creativity.

These Grands Prix awards demonstrate Sacem’s support for the French cultural scene, which has been at a standstill for almost 9 months. We are talking about authors, composers, performers, musicians, DJs, publishers, producers, managers, directors, mixers, sound engineers, press officers, graphic designers, video artists, make-up artists, photographers, bookers, programmers, venue managers, teachers, trainers, coaches and others. When a show does not go on, all the links in this chain of skills are idled as the works of creators remain in the dark. Every link in the chain is essential to the vitality of artistic creation and to our cultural identity, which currently faces danger.

Check out the five exclusive episodes of the Sacem Grands Prix web series, available now on our YouTube channel and all week on Sacem’s social accounts!
